Blick in die Dauerausstellung: Sowjetische Kriegsgefangene

The permanent exhibition on the upper floor documents the criminal German warfare and occupation as well as Soviet society during the war.

It shows the war from the perspective of both the German and the Soviet actors. In addition to texts, historical photos, everyday objects and written documents, the exhibition presents people who became victims or perpetrators.

Open-air exhibition in the museum garden on the history of the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht to the four victorious powers of the Soviet Union, USA, Great Britain and France on 8 May 1945 in Berlin-Karlshorst.

To mark the 85th anniversary of the German invasion of the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, the museum is once again presenting the exhibition 1941. June Letters – Unread Field Post from Kamianets-Podilskyi, which was developed in 2016 in collaboration with the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War in Kyiv.

The exhibition focuses on the final emptying of the postbox at the Kamianets-Podilskyi post office. Due to the outbreak of war, the letters were never delivered. Confiscated by the German occupation authorities, they ended up as spoils of war at the Postal Museum in Vienna. Following their return to Ukraine, this unique collection is now housed at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War in Kyiv.

EVENTS

On 8 May 1945, the unconditional surrender of the German Wehrmacht was signed in the museum building in Berlin-Karlshorst before the four Allied powers. This marked the end of the Second World War in Europe.

The museum is organising a special programme to mark the occasion.
